Sisyphus' Descendants (Triptych) oil on canvas
1993-96

Sisysphus' Descendants Triptych
Please note: this work measure more than 5 metres (21 ft.) tall. To render it into a format which can be seen here, is like rendering a full size car down to a miniature toy car scale. I feel that the result of this scale makes this work seem more like a cartoon and it therefore looses much of its dynamic quality. The best way to view this work when it's this small, is to view an installation image (as seen to the right), which is still unsatisfactory to me as the artist. There are numerous details and installation images within the "hEaVEN n eARTh" catalogue: which can be accessed by the link to the far right.

In an attempt to try and bring a better perspective to this rather large work, I have included two modest Flash Movies which emulate a pan over the surface of these paintings. Please remember that even these images have been reduced to fit a web format and much of the fine detail is absent.

life sometimes feels like a Sisyphean toil
we roll the rock up the mountain to watch it roll down the other side
only to be forced to roll it back up again ad-infinitum

in the toil of our labour do we stop to take in the view when we roll that rock to the summit
or are we lost in the minutia of our consternation

For the Sake of my Art and my Loved Ones,
I will Gladly Endure to the End!
1997

For the Sake of my Art and my Loved Ones, I will Glady Endure to the End! - watercolour on paper.

"This work was undoubtedly created during one of the darkest periods of my Life! Out of money, out of luck and what seemed like, out of hope. I couldn't find the motivation to keep on going on and looked to Socrates solution, to be a good one: pass the mug of hemlock. Then remembering that my life was not just my own and belonged also to those I loved and loved me back - I'd keep up the good fight. Art is indeed a catharsis, as I could spend my time making this work, which I believe together with the title says everything I need to say about it for itself." G.Pas

that darkest hour is the one before the break of daylight
when that light comes streaming in the darkness fades away
we can speak of truth if we have experienced it and it is in knowing both the light and the dark, pain or joy, wealth or poverty, sickness or health, that we become fully and totally humans
