The drawings seen below represent a sample from almost 200 drawings, which I has made surrounding my sculptural work "ReFormation - From Sandton to Kliptown". These drawings were created in preparation for the CrossPathCulture exhibition "CrossOvers" in Johannesburg, South Africa (January, 2001).
The top row of drawings conveys actual draft or concept drawings which were used to present the proposals for this project. The second larger group of drawings was created using a technique of rubbing over different assembled templates with varied graphics media such as chalk, pastels, crayons, graphite, pencils, etc. While there are many drawings which seem similar to one another they are not like mono prints. I imparted individual characteristic to each by drawing on each one individually and treating each singularly as a unique work of art. There are more than 200 of these drawings. The last group on the bottom of the page where created in the same fashion as the aforementioned works but with 'tongue firmly in cheek' I directed these to have different content than the above, that of a biological nature. I felt it in good taste to exhibit these privately, but I nevertheless feel the topic of carnality or sexuality and the handicapped a worthy one: therefore you will find them below!
If you have an interest in acquiring one of these works, they are for sale during the exhibition in Johannesburg. If you can't or didn't make it to Jo'burg, they can also be attained here at www.gerardpas.com: please send an E-mail of enquiry to rembrandt@gerardpas.com listing the name of the drawing which interests you.
