Over the course of my life as an artist and photographer I have found myself in recent years gravitating towards photographing birds. Since 2008 I have taken over 50,000 photographs of various birds here in my region of Southwestern Ontario, Canada. I have spent countless hours patiently waiting for a particular bird or species of birds often with results; although I've known many hours of waiting with nothing to show for it. Flying above our earth while soaring through the skies, birds have been symbols of power and freedom throughout history. Birds play a major role in various religions, myths and folklore throughout the world. From creation myths, heavenly messengers, deity's, birds link the human world to the divine and realms that lie beyond our everyday experiences.
It is for this reason that I have made this series of photographs of women holding feathers. When and where I can I will reference those myths as spoken of above but I am primarily concerned only with the aesthetic of woman and feather; some men may be included.
